Women preparing food at Sreepur Village

Sreepur Village

Sreepur Village was founded by former British Airways stewardess Pat Kerr. While on stopovers in Dhaka, Pat worked as a volunteer in a children’s home. When she learnt that the home was under threat of closure she appealed to her colleagues in B.A. to raise enough money to build a new children’s village.

Children being fed at Sreepur VillageThe story was told in 3 TV documentaries made by Desmond Wilcox for the BBC. Sreepur Village opened in 1989 and continues to give hope and opportunity to over 500 abandoned children and more than 100 destitute women.

Pat left the airline when the village opened and went to live at Sreepur for three years to establish a management structure that could be run by a well qualified local team. She remains overseas director of the charity responsible for the Village and has recently returned to live at Sreepur to look at the long term sustainability of the project.
