Zack Greinke is expected to pitch for another season in the majors, according to Jon Heyman of the New York Post.
The Kansas City Royals are reportedly interested in re-signing the veteran right-hander after he returned to the organization he started his career with in 2004.
Greinke posted a 3.68 ERA over 137 innings (26 starts) during his age-38 campaign with the Royals in 2022.
The six-time All-Star won the 2009 AL Cy Young with Kansas City. He’s also 118 strikeouts from reaching the 3,000 mark for his career. He could become only the 20th hurler in MLB history to accomplish the feat. The majority of pitchers who’ve reached that mark are in the Hall of Fame.
Greinke’s career 65.5 fWAR only trails Max Scherzer, Clayton Kershaw, and Justin Verlander since 2004. Those three pitchers will very likely enter Cooperstown when their playing days are finished.
