The Chicago White Sox will hire former Toronto Blue Jays manager Charlie Montoyo as bench coach to work under new skipper Pedro Grifol, a source told Daryl Van Schouwen of the Chicago Sun-Times.
Montoyo spent parts of four seasons with the Blue Jays. He was a finalist for American League Manager of the Year in 2020 after leading the club to the postseason.
The 57-year-old posted a 236-236 record in Toronto before he was fired on July 13.
Before taking the Blue Jays’ managerial job, Montoyo spent four campaigns as the Tampa Bay Rays’ bench coach.
Miguel Cairo served as Chicago’s bench coach in 2022. Cairo was elevated to interim manager in August after Tony La Russa stepped down due to a medical issue.
