Justin Verlander pitched five solid innings for his first career World Series win and rookie shortstop Jeremy Pena had three hits and two RBIs as the Houston Astros beat the Philadelphia Phillies 3-2 in Game 5 at Citizens Bank Park.
Houston now leads the World Series 3-2 and can clinch its second championship in franchise history at home Saturday.
Astros center fielder and Philadelphia-area native Chas McCormick made the play of the series in the ninth when he robbed J.T. Realmuto of extra bases with a phenomenal catch at the wall.
Yordan Alvarez plated the winning run for Houston with an RBI groundout in the eighth. Ryan Pressly then locked up the victory with a five-out save, aided by critical defensive plays from Trey Mancini in the eighth and then McCormick in the ninth.
