Alphonso Davies injury: Will Canada star be ready for World Cup after hamstring strain with Bayern Munich?

Canadian national team fans are holding their breath after star player Alphonso Davies picked up an injury with Bayern Munich just two weeks before the start of the 2022 FIFA World Cup.

The injury, sustained during the second half of Bayern’s 3-2 win at Hertha Berlin, forced Davies out of the match and now the wait begins until a clear prognosis is known.

Manager Julian Nagelsmann said the club will be conducting more tests on Sunday, but there is definitely damage that was done:

“According to the doctor, there is at least one fiber tear,” he said as relayed in a translated tweet by reporter Florian Plettenberg. “We have to wait and see what comes out tomorrow [Sunday].”

Canada World Cup schedule

Canada open their World Cup group stage against their toughest opposition in Group F: No. 2-ranked Belgium.

That match will be played on Wednesday, Nov. 23, exactly 18 days from the day that Davies suffered the injury with Bayern.

After that, Canada will face 2018 World Cup finalists Croatia (November 27) and close out the group stage against Morocco (December 1), hoping that they have something to play for going into that final match.
