The quest to repeat as gold medalists has unofficially begun. Canada has named its 25-man roster ahead of the 2023 World Juniors, as new head coach Dennis Williams and his crew get set for the competition in the Maritimes.
A number of members of the 2022 team that won gold will once again don the Canada colors in 2023. Leading the way will be 2023 draft superstar Connor Bedard, top defenseman and Ducks prospect Olen Zellweger and Stars draft pick Logan Stankoven.
Shane Wright and Dylan Guenther return to the World Juniors stage after foregoing the summer competition. The two were on Canada’s initial 2022 roster. In addition, 2023 draft stalwart Adam Fantilli makes his debut at the World Juniors.
Canada defeated Finland 3-2 in the gold-medal games of the 2022 tournament, thanks to a goal by Blue Jackets winger Kent Johnson. No one has won more golds than Canada, and the country can pick up its 20th gold medal with a win at this year’s 2023 World Juniors.
